The type of scientific treatises (pulu lei 譜錄類) is a sub-category to the literary category of masters and philosophers (zibu 子部) in the collectaneum Siku quanshu 四庫全書. The section has been divided into three parts, firstly tools and objects (qiwu 器物, 25 books) including research on antiques, the objects of the study, money, machines, and so on (the most famous of which are Kaogutu 考古圖, Qiqi tushuo 奇器圖說 and the Tiangong kaiwu 天工開物, the latter not being included in the Siku quanshu); secondly eating and drinking (yinxuan 飲饌, 10 books), like the book Chajing 茶經; and thirdly studies on plants and animals (caomu qinyu 草木禽魚, 21 books). The scientific treatises section in the Siku quanshu includes 56 books.
