Jiuwen zhengwu 舊聞證誤 is a historical critique written during the Southern Song period 南宋 (1127-1279) by Li Xinchuan 李心傳 (1167-1244), who is better known for his chronicles Jianyan yilai xinian yalu 建炎以來系年要錄 and Jianyan yilai chaoye zaji 建炎以來朝野雜記.
The Jiuwen zhengwu, comprising 4 juan, corrects the errors found in privately compiled histories of the Song period. It provides detailed textual evidence to rectify inaccuracies regarding the evolution of court institutions, inconsistencies in dates, and misplacements of personal names.
According to the bibliographical chapter (202-209 Yiwen zhi 藝文志) in the official dynastic history Songshi 宋史, the work originally consisted of 15 juan. However, no copies have survived since the Ming period 明 (1368-1644), and thus later historians—such as Xue Yingqi 薛應旂 (1500–1575) and Wang Zongmu 王宗沐 (1523-1591) in their continuations of the Zizhi tongjian 治通鑒 (see Song-Yuan zizhi tongjian 宋元資治通鑒), or Shang Lu 商輅 (1414-1486) in his continuation of the Tongjian gangmu 通鑒綱目, were unable to consult Li's book.
The version in the imperial series Siku quanshu 四庫全書 was reconstructed from the Ming-period encyclopaedia Yongle dadian 永樂大典. These fragments have been arranged chronologically and were compiled into four juan.
The text is included in the series Siku quanshu, Hanhai 函海, Rongyuan congshu 榕園叢書 and Congshu jicheng chubian 叢書集成初編.
