Highly impressed by Liang Mao, Cao Cao made him leader of the court gentlemen for miscellaneous use (wuguan zhonglang jiang 五官中郎將), electable as aide (zhangshi 長史), so that he was transferred to the post of army supervisor to the left (zuo jiangshi 左軍師). When Cao Cao made himself king of Wei 魏, Liang was promoted to the post of vice director of the Imperial Secretariat (shangshu puye 尚書仆射), then Chamberlain for the Imperial Insignia (zhongwei 中尉) and Chamberlain for Ceremonials (fengchang 奉常). Liang finally served as Grand Mentor of the Heir Apparent (taizi taifu 太子太傅).
